'On behalf of the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame and Museum, I want to offer condolences to
his family and friends.
He is remembered here for
his great contributions. I'm sorry that we ended up
having a schedule conflict last year
and were not able
to bring him to Cleveland. I send regards to you and,
again, thank you for passing along
this sad news.'

'Eric Clapton has said
many times that John was one of the musicians that
inspired him to play the Blues.
And for their
internationally televised special in 1964, the
Beatles invited John to perform
'I Got My Mojo Working'.
In those days the only music we fell in love with
was the Blues, and John was the first white guy
singing it, in his wonderful voice. It was the true
Blues and everyone looked up to him'.

'I
first glimpsed sight of John on Charing Cross
Station in 1957. He was carrying a guitar with
"Long John" painted
in white across
the case. I subsequently got to know him and busk
with him a few times under the arches at Charing Cross (across from
the 'Gyre and Gimble') He was truly a
profound influence on the budding young Blues
guitar crowd
at that time. I shall cherish those
memories of happy times listening to John in the Soho coffee houses.'
